Olympics 2008 - How logo was made

From my Inbox 1 Comment »

A whole lot of protest has been going on against the Olympics 2008 in China. The issue of Tibet has hogged lots of lime-light earlier. When a country with iron curtains like China organises an international event of this magnitude, there are bound to be a few controversies as well.

This is a graphical, satirical rendition of a process of how the logo could have been made. :)

This is a video I received in email. I really don’t know whether this is how Chinese people multiply, but this was the title of the mail, so I just carried it over :)

Windows XP SP3 Released

Technology No Comments »

Windows XP SP3 is released. Here are the SP3 release notes. I was waiting for that since quite some time because now I will format my laptop HD and install SP3 on top of SP2. I hope SP3 incorporates all the updates released after SP2 and it solves more problems then it creates.

Some of the steps to take before installing XP-SP3 are truly frightening!

ICICI spoof mails!

From my Inbox, Technology No Comments »

Wow! ICICI is upgrading it’s security! Or so do these spoof mails “claim”!

It’s another of those silly mails decorated with ICICI logo, trying to steal passwords. Looking a little closely reveals the true nature. Links apparently are pointing to ICICI site, but lead to kararila.com

Have a look at this screen shot of the email. Pay attention to the link in the email. The true destination is shown in the status bar.

Dump Those Negative Habits Now!

From my Inbox No Comments »

This article from my inbox is by Mark Victor Hansen, co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul Series. Everyone struggles with some bad habit or the other. So here’s some help. :)

If you want to distance yourself from the masses and enjoy a rich and unique lifestyle, understand this - your habits will determine your future.

The fact is, if you keep on doing things a certain way, you will get a predictable result. That’s the simple law of Cause and Effect. Successful habits create positive rewards. Negative habits breed negative consequences.

If you want to enjoy longevity, you must have healthy habits. If you are in the habit of starving your most important relationships of time, energy and love, how can you expect a happy outcome? If you spend money on the fly or don’t save any money, your bad habits will lead you to a never-ending cycle of work.

Shift yourself out of your bad habits
Fortunately, you can jump from this bad habits path anytime you want. It’s a very simple process - it just takes some applied focus. Here’s the step-by-step process I recommend: Read the rest of this entry »

Antivirus and firewall, Kaspersky and ZoneAlarm

I bought my laptop on 20th May 2006. Deep (the self-proclaimed sony man  ) recommended me Sony VAIO SZ series. I inquired at various places on Lamington Road and also harassed Kunal (IT Concepts) a lot for laptop options. ;) Finally I bought Sony VAIO SZ18GP for 125,000/- with 3 years warranty and carry bag through IT Concepts. With just 1.7 kg weight and 6 hours of actual battery life, I am really glad I bought it. :)

Norton Antivirus (NAV) came pre-installed with 3 months’ validity. 3 months went smoothly. So I paid for 1 more year. But hell! NAV is more of hype! Slowly it started giving me trouble and one fine day it itself got infected with some virus. It used to get shut down within 5 minutes of stating my laptop with some error message. See the irony! It is supposed to protect my data and it can’t protect itself!

Since I had paid for it, I made use of Symantec Technical Support. I was told on Live Chat that being a licensed user, I was entitled to the new version. I downloaded the uninstaller and the installation files of new version. The new version was better that it could at least protect itself, but slowed down my system even further.

Happy Diwali, Happy New Year

Miscellaneous, My India 1 Comment »

Diwali FirewroksIt is Diwali time, the festival season. The season of celebration, firecrackers (and noise + pollution) and sweets. I wish a happy diwali and a wonderful new year to all those who read this and also to all those who do not read this. :)

Some basic information for those who do not know the significance of Diwali. It is the day when Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after killing Ravana on Dussera day.

Well, I have nothing more to say now. Some sweets are lying in front of me and I just can’t keep myself away from it any longer! So I shall “chatter” some other time, intermittently of course. ;)

Twins Timeline updated

My Twins 5 Comments »

There is hardly anything worth reading at my (so called) blog  because I am not a good blogger. But there is one section which has been appreciated by many of my friends, cousins and acquaintances - Twins-Timeline where I keep 2 pictures of my daughters every month since their birth.

Recently I have been so busy (and not lazy!) that I have neither clicked too many pictures of them :( nor updated the timeline on regularly. However, today once again I postponed some work to update the timeline. Now it contains pictures upto September 2007.

Following pictures are the crux of the timeline. It is their pictures when they were just a few days old in May 2005 and the more recent pictures of August 2007. You know where to go for a complete view - Twins-Timeline.
