Twins can be different too!!

Mahi

Meha

Whenever people hear that I am a father of twin daughters, they all think about all the stupid double role bolloywood movies they have seen. One of them gets hit and the other feels the pain! People think this must be happening with all the twins. Nothing can be further from the truth. From my experience of more than six months I can say that twins can also be as different as chalk and cheese!

Take the example of my daughters, Mahi and Meha. Mahi is elder by 2 minutes :)

Mahi observes a lot and keeps thinking. She even observes her own hand and fingers for minutes at a stretch. Meha has no time to observe. As soon as she sees something, she wants to grab and play with it.

Mahi hates milk and likes soups, rice and other preparartions. Meha loves milk and makes a face everytime something else is put in her mouth.

Mahi will cry when a toy falls from her hand. She will wait for someone to give it back in her hand even if its lying next to her. Meha will go and take a toy even it is a few feet away.

Mahi sits in all the swings, chairs, carriers, etc. that we got, Meha is almost always a bit afraid and apprehensive.

Mahi loves massage and loves to take bath. Meha cries at the top of her voice and hates both the activities.

Mahi doesn’t cry when strangers lift her, Meha starts crying within 5 minutes.
Mahi never smiles at strangers, Meha smiles at everyone.

Mahi looks like my grand-mother, Meha looks like me! No! They both DON’T look same! Meha is also taller than Mahi by about 1.5 inches!

Mahi is fond of dad and Meha is fond of mom :D

There are so many differences. Of course there are similarities as well. But the point is, there are so many differences. Just because they are twins, doesn’t mean there are only similarities.

Thanks so much Megha :) You are welcome anytime to come and play with them. That will also make rest of my family happy because while they are with you, we all can take a small sigh of relief :D. They keep us on our toes, especially Mahi! Meha usually keeps playing with something or the other.

    Dear Ashish,

great photos of your lovely daughters! Also got four kids, but one after the other, so mine are absolutely different anyway! I came across your site, because I am on search for the meaning of the name “Meha”. You must be knowing the meaning, would you be so kind to mail it to me? It is difficult in Germany to get to know this. I heard it means “intelligent”, so must your dauhters both be! Would love to hear from you.

Meha, which can also be pronounced as Meh means rain.

Mahi, which some pronounce as Maahi and some as Mahi means earth, or rather mother earth.

We have named our daughters on two of the biggest forces of nature - earth and rain. While they are pleased they can give you all that you need. But if they are furious, no on can stop the devastation.

[...] I had a holiday on Saturday and Sunday. But wanted to come to office on both the days. But I couldn’t come because Mahi wasn’t well. She is very fond of me and doesn’t go to anyone else when I am around. The heavy doses of medicine made her cranky and so I had to stay at home to look after her. [...]

When I named my daughter Meha back in 1994, I thought she was the only one with that name in this world. Now I know that she has company. The problem with the name is everytime she is asked on her name, people do not digest it at one go. They keep repeating Neha? Megha? ???. Then I have to explain to them that Meha stands for rain.

Your kids are cute. Good health to them.

    Thanks Harish for your wishes.
