I have my reservations about reservations!

My India 19 Comments »

I have two doctors in my family, my sister Dr. Tejal Mehta (a homoeopath) and my brother-in-law, Dr. Ashish Mehta (yes, even he is Ashish Mehta :)). He is a neurosurgeon, practising at Mumbai. They both have been toppers who got their admissions on merits and has deservedly become doctors. Now they are taking proper care of their patients. Patients are happy because they know that their doctors are capable of doing what they are doing.

I once asked my brother-in-law about his views on Quota System & SC/ST/OBC Reservations in education. He said most of those who get admitted without merit can’t cope up with the demands of courses and drop out within some time. Thus they don’t benefit by this and they also spoil the chances of someone who deserves to be there. Then he told me about one of his friends who lost admission to MBBS course by a single mark and lost his mental balance. That fellow is still not got back to normalcy and is the only son of a widow mother! All those people must be cursing V.P.Singh and now Arjun Singh from the fathom of their hearts! :(

Happy 1st Birthday to Mahi-Meha

My Twins 24 Comments »

Here’s a birthday wish from a dad to his lovely twin daughters on their first birthday. :D

Exactly a year ago on 18th May 2005, my wife Heena, gave birth to Mahi & Meha by caesarian. I still remember that wonderful day, which could have also been a dreadful one for me.

At about 8:45am they both were born at Mumbai. Mahi is elder to Meha by 2 minutes. Mahi weighed 1.4kg (3.08 pounds) and Meha weighed 1.9 kg (4.18 pounds). I was the first one to hold Mahi in my hands and was overwhelmed by emotions. I could barely control my tears. Within 2 minutes Meha was brought out and my joy was doubled.

I want a new WordPress theme for my blog! Regulus is nice, but I want something better. :D I am greedy. I have seen so many themes and googled up so many times. But haven’t still found one that I like more than the one that I am using. And I don’t like the one that I use :(

I will keep searching!! I want a lighter theme with a decent function set. :)

Bitten by the tech bug!

Life's like that! 5 Comments »

I’ve been bitten by the tech bug since last 15 years. ;) So I am not talking about myself, but about my dad!! He is 69 and used to have a strong aversion for computers! He still has one for mobiles.

Some days back, he told me he needs a PC in his cabin at office!! For a second, I thought “WOW“! Even my 7 years old nephew was surprised at this news (”Nana, I heard you are learning computers. Is it true?”).

345 free online programming books

Technology No Comments »

I rencetly came across a list of 345 FREE online programming books!! Its a long list covering lots of things from basics of programming to language specific links. The best part about it is that the list is still growing. Originally, it contained 195 links, but now contains 345!

However there one thing that I missed in the list. There was nothing for CSS enthusists like me!! :( But I am hopeful because, as I said, the list is still growing! :) I have frantically searched at various places (online and offline) for a good book on CSS. I got 2-3 things online. But didn’t find anything worth mentioning offline. I wonder why is this topic neglected by authors and publishers in India?

Anyway for the others, here is the link. 345 Free Online Programming Books

Pramod Mahajan departs!

Miscellaneous 2 Comments »

Pramod Mahajan expired finally!! His brother shot him from point blank range! Quite unbelievable! The irony is that he himself had helped his brother in procuring the licence for the gun which finally became instrumental in his death!

After Rajiv Gandhi and Madhavrao Scindia, India lost one more promising and capable leader. He was a capable politician and had affected Maharashtra’s politics since quite some time.

My sympathies with his family.
