intermittent chatter

I’ve been bitten by the tech bug since last 15 years. So I am not talking about myself, but about my dad!! He is 69 and used to have a strong aversion for computers! He still has one for mobiles.

Some days back, he told me he needs a PC in his cabin at office!! For a second, I thought “WOW“! Even my 7 years old nephew was surprised at this news (”Nana, I heard you are learning computers. Is it true?”).

On a second thought I tried to discourage him because constant staring at monitor could create problems for his eyes! His eyes are already a bit weak now and he visits our opthalmologist quite regularly. But he was firm (as usual)!!

As a temporary measure, I shifted my home PC to his desk. To give him a trouble-free fresh system, I did a low lever format of the hard disk, re-partitioned it and re-installed everything from scratch.

I have been doing the family accounts since last 3-4 years. I finished it in time this year too. But due to constant presence of Mahi & Meha it was somewhat difficult. He knows it. So this, in addition to some wordprocessing and spread-sheets, seems to be the main reason for demanding a PC.

He also got a book titled Comdex Computer Course Kit. Its a book for beginners and explains right from the basics viz. what’s a mouse, what’s a click, etc. He yesterday told me that he has already read 50 pages in a few hours!! The tech bug has well and truly bitten him! And he seems to be enjoying it.

Now I am eagerly waiting for the day when he will get an email address printed on his visiting card!
